Arrival and inventory

If all goes well, you will find the Tiny clean. If you unexpectedly have any comments, please let us know immediately.
Upon arrival or departure, we also request that you inform us of any defects.
We try to be as complete as possible with the available inventory. If obvious inventory is not present or if inventory is broken, we kindly request that you inform us of this. Cleaning supplies such as a bucket, dustpan and broom are present.

Waste disposal

The waste is collected separately.
In the kitchen you will find a waste bin with a small container for vegetable, fruit and garden waste and a larger container with a plastic bag for residual waste. There is also a bag for the collection of plastic (plastic, metal and drink cartons). If the containers are full, you can empty them into the containers at the waste point. See also the map.

At the waste point you will find a box for paper and glass, a small brown bin for organic waste and a green container for residual waste. If the plastic collection bag is full, you can also place it at the waste point. You can hand in batteries at reception.

The green containers are emptied on Monday morning and the green containers are placed at the Karweg.

There is a bin at the stable in which you can deposit vegetable cutting waste. We can use cutting waste to feed our animals.

End cleaning

You should have found the Tiny clean and tidy. If this is not the case, we request that you inform us. The following options are available for final cleaning:

1. You clean yourself
If you clean the Tiny yourself, we expect you to leave the Tiny as tidy as you found it. That means mopped, dusted and patched; clean sanitary facilities; the dishes done and tidied up; the duvets folded on the beds; the decor is unchanged and the furnishings are clean. The waste separated – residual waste, organic waste, paper and glass – and taken to the central collection points. We request that you place any rented sheets and towels in a pillowcase in the bathroom.
If you do not have any cleaning products with you, you can use our products. You will find this in the toilet room in the reception building in the cupboard under the sink with the text “cleaning products for general use”. Please put them back after use.

2. You let us clean the bungalow
In this case, we expect you to leave the Tiny broom clean. This means that the dishes are done, the waste is removed (see also above) and the furnishings are unchanged. We request that you place any rented sheets and towels in a pillowcase in the bathroom. We would also like to point out that the fee you pay for final cleaning is based on a tidy occupancy of the bungalow.
We will charge any additional work in both cases 1 and 2 afterwards.

Burglary or theft

Burglary or theft almost never occurs on De Roek. However, it is wise to lock the doors and windows when you are away. This is your own responsibility.

Internet

You can use our WiFi for free. The network has the name of your Tiny. The password is on the front of the information folder in your Tiny.

Cooking, Microwave and oven

The kitchen is equipped with a 2-burner induction hob and a combination microwave/oven. At the back of the folder you will find abbreviated instructions for use for both devices. The detailed operating instructions are available for loan at reception.

Smoking (also applies to e-cigarettes)

Smoking is only allowed outside in your garden near your own Tiny. Smoking is not permitted in the Tiny itself. If you smoke outside in your own garden, please use an ashtray and remember to wash it before leaving. Please also consider the fire risk of a smoldering cigarette, especially in dry times.
The parts of the Roek that are accessible to everyone are completely smoke-free. These are in particular, in addition to the playground and the petting zoo, the De Hop reception building itself including its terrace, the parking spaces and the paths on De Roek.

Underfloor heating

The Tiny has modern, fully electric heating. This is controlled by the thermostat that you will find when you enter the room from the hall, on the left or right of the wall.
If the heating does not work, please inform reception.

Ventilation

After using a shower or bath, it is also wise to open the bathroom window. Don’t forget to close it again when you leave. On the day of departure, you can leave the windows slightly open. Unless it is freezing or very cold.

Departure time

We assume that you will leave the Tiny before 10 am on the day of departure. We request that you come to reception between 9 and 10 am to hand in the key and, if necessary, to take care of any final matters. You can leave the Tiny open. We will refund the deposit paid to your account after deduction of any additional services within 10 days. If you would like to leave at a different time, we request that you inform us at least one day in advance.

If due to circumstances you have to leave at a different time and you find the reception closed, we ask you to lock the Tiny and deposit the key in the wooden mailbox. This box can be found outside the reception building.

Terrace

You will find our terrace around ‘De Hop’. It is open to guests and residents of Otterlo from Monday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. Here you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or something else to drink with a good old-fashioned piece of apple pie.

First aid/AED

A first aid kit is available in the reception. Most employees also have a company emergency response qualification. There is an AED in the toilet room next to reception.

Post

You can collect any mail during reception opening hours. The postman usually comes late in the afternoon. If you expect a newspaper, please inform reception.

Library

At our reception you can borrow books, comics and DVDs free of charge. Most books and comics are in the Dutch language.

Shop

In our shop we sell organic dry goods, fruit juice, meat, meat substitutes and, depending on the season, delicious organic ice cream. Furthermore, firewood for the wood stove and souvenirs. We like to recycle the bags containing the wood. Will you return them?

The opening hours of the shop are the same as those of the reception.

De Roek Zorgbedrijf – daytime activities

De Roek is also a healthcare company. This means that we offer supervised daytime activities to young adults with an intellectual disability from Monday to Friday. They help at the petting zoo, collect dirty laundry, iron and fold, deliver clean laundry, collect waste, do forest and garden work, help in the shop, etc.
De Roek Zorgbedrijf is a recognized training company. We already have had many students, for example those who follow a HBO course in Social Welfare, for an internship.

Light pollution

Artificial light has a negative impact on us and our environment. Light pollution disrupts not only our biological clock, but also that of nature. The moth is the biggest victim. They fall prey to other animals more quickly, eat and mate less. But the migratory birds also become disoriented and the starry sky is no longer visible to us. In short, light pollution is harmful to our own health and biodiversity in the Netherlands.

De Roek wants to contribute as little as possible to this and prefers to leave nature in the dark. We therefore illuminate our paths at least with solar wooden LED poles. If you are bothered by the darkness, we are happy to provide you with a flashlight.

Meal service

If you don’t feel like cooking, we have the solution for you on Fridays. Every Friday our chef makes a delicious vegetarian meal together with the participants of De Roek Zorgbedrijf. For each meal ordered, we donate €1 to a project in Bolivia where underprivileged young people are trained as chefs who promote indigenous cuisine.

Parking facilities

Each bungalow and Tiny House has its own reserved parking space with the name of your bungalow in one of the two parking spaces. This place will be indicated to you upon arrival. The Libelle and the Tortelduif have their own driveway with parking for 1 car. Do you have more than 1 car with you or are you having visitors? Then don’t just park your car anywhere, but consult with reception where it can be parked. That is pleasant for you, for the other guests and for us. We provide a hand cart for loading and unloading.

Petting zoo

Feeding and feeding times
At De Roek petting zoo we have fixed feeding times. Children can then help feed the animals, assisted by one of our employees. Unless otherwise stated, feeding times are from Monday to Saturday at 9:15 am. It is not the intention that you enter the stable before the person supervising the feeding arrives. It is not permitted to feed the animals outside feeding times.

There is a bin at the stable in which you can deposit vegetable cutting waste. We can use cutting waste to feed our animals.

Entering the petting zoo is at your own risk. Please make sure that you close the pasture gates and the stable door properly after a visit. The large meadow and grandpa’s meadow are not freely accessible.

Petting zoo hygiene
Pregnant women and children are particularly susceptible to germs that can be transmitted from animals to humans. We therefore recommend that you always wash your hands with soap after a visit to the petting zoo. This can be done in the toilet room of the reception building. It is also unwise to eat near animals. It is not permitted to enter the manure pile.

Playground

The playground is located next to the large meadow at the reception. We have an agreement with the campsite located next to the playground that the playground is quiet after 8 p.m. The go-karts in the playground are free to use. However, it is not the intention to take them to your bungalow or drive them outside the Roek on public roads.

Food forest

Fortunately, we have a lot of nature around the bungalows at De Roek. However, due to the dry summers, we noticed that the environment and nature are unfortunately slowly changing. The larch in particular suffered from the drought and a number of them died. A shame, but also an opportunity to start something new. We came up with the idea of a food forest with plants and trees that can withstand drought, at the same time promote biodiversity on De Roek and are preferably edible as much as possible. A forest that blooms and grows with various edible plants and fruits. In 2020, we therefore started a step-by-step transformation of the vegetation at De Roek. Instead of replant conifers, we have started planting trees and shrubs that can withstand drought and also have food value. With a greater diversity of plants we also hope for a greater diversity of animals, insects and birds. In this way, De Roek becomes a unique place in the area.

Fresh herbs from our own garden
At De Roek we prefer to cook with fresh herbs, almost all from our own garden! Fresh herbs are a delicious addition to any meal, but also the basis of a drink. For example, we serve fresh mint tea from our own herb garden on our terrace. During your stay you can of course also pick fresh herbs from our own herb garden to use while cooking.

You can find the following herbs in our garden:
Sage, Rosemary, Oregano, thyme, mint, chives, dill, coriander and nasturtium.

Birds feeding

De Roek is located in a bird-rich area with a wide variety of species. In addition, our guests are often visited by squirrels. Birds and squirrels make grateful use of the food that our guests place in the birdhouses or on the edge of the terrace. To keep birds and squirrels healthy, we request that you do not overfeed. Too much food attracts the wrong visitors.

Please be careful not to use food nets! Birds get entangled in the empty net and things often end badly for them. You can buy bird and squirrel food in our shop. In the winter we also sell peanut chains that the participants of our care company string.

Sustainability

Sustainability has been part of our business operations for years. To this end, we have introduced a number of water and energy saving measures.
Part of our bungalows are heated and cooled with a heat pump. The ones with a HR central heating system will be renovated and equipped with a heat pump in de coming years. Bungalow De Bosuil is equipped with solar panels for hot water production. We have 140 solar panels for electricity production. We are also a customer of electricity and gas from Greenchoice, which guarantees 100% sustainable production or compensated energy. De Hop, our reception building, is heated and cooled with a heat pump and therefore has no gas connection. We do not use chemical weed killers during maintenance and we collect waste separately. On our children’s farm we feed organic pellets and, if available, also organic hay and straw. Cleaning and washing are done with environmentally friendly cleaning products from, among others, the Sonnet brand. You can also borrow these resources for the final cleaning of your bungalow. There is a special cupboard in the sanitary room for this purpose.

Charging stations for electric cars

There are 3 public charging stations with 6 charging places along the Vijverlaan/Weversteeg, a 5-minute walk from De Roek. It is not permitted to use a normal socket in the bungalows or on the grounds for this purpose.

Sheets and towels

The sheets and towels we rent are made of organic cotton. If sheets are damaged but not yet worn out, we repair them with a clearly visible piece of cloth. In this way we give them a second life.

Furniture

Sustainable is a trendy term these days, but for us it has been self-evident for years. We are always looking for ways to relieve the burden on the environment. There is a lot of rarely used furniture offered in the region through various platforms. We are happy to give this furniture a second life in our bungalows. We regularly search the internet for unique and/or special objects that match the style of one of our bungalows.

Shops

Most shops in Otterlo are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Outside the high season, some shops are closed from 12:30 to 1:30 pm and on Wednesday afternoons. On Saturdays, most shops close at 4 or 5 p.m. Friday evening is shopping evening and the shops are open until 7 PM or 8 PM.
A Spar supermarket is located in the Dorpsstraat. This supermarket has a postal service point. The Spar is open from Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm.
On Wednesdays a greengrocer is in the parking lot at the Waldhoorn.

Public transport
Bus 105S provides a connection to Harderwijk and Arnhem. The stop can be found on the Arnhemseweg, which is the main road through Otterlo.
Bus 108S provides a connection to Apeldoorn and Ede. This stop can be found at the roundabout at the beginning of Otterlo. At certain times, bus 105S towards Harderwijk connects to the bus towards Apeldoorn or Ede.
Bus 106 provides a connection to Hoenderloo and runs through the National Park. You will find this stop on the Harskamperweg opposite the Dorpsstraat.

De Praktijk

The practice is open on working days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a work meeting between 10 and 11 and the phone is on a tape. They can be reached in case of emergencies. Between 12 noon and 2 p.m. the practice can only be reached for emergencies. The practice is closed on Thursday afternoon due to non-patient tasks. You can then visit the general practitioners in Wekerom or Harskamp.

You can call the practice for an appointment on working days between 8 am and 12 noon. Same-day appointments must be made before 9:15 am; appointments for other days also after 9.15 am. They reserve 10 minutes for an appointment. Please indicate if you need more time.
