Order a meal

Don’t feel like cooking? Order a meal.

Our chefs Suzanne and Arno have the solution for you! Every Friday, they, along with the participants of De Roek Care Company, prepare a delicious vegetarian meal. You can order a meal at the reception. The menu varies and will be announced in the newsletter that we send you in the week before your arrival.

The cost is €7.50 per person. You can sign up for this during office hours in the week before your stay by calling 0318-59 17 57 or emailing info@deroek.nl. We kindly ask you to let us know by Thursday 10:00 AM whether you would like to join for the meal. We will ensure that the meal is ready in your bungalow upon your arrival.

Project Bolivia Manqua

For each ordered meal, we donate €1 to a project in Bolivia that trains young people to become chefs and promotes indigenous cuisine. Bolivia is one of the poorest countries

Maaltijdenin Latin America. Due to poor income in agriculture, many farmers move to the city. However, unemployment is high there. Especially young people have limited opportunities to improve their future.

ICCO’s Manqua Bolivia project trains underprivileged young people from the city of El Alto to become chefs who promote indigenous cuisine. The training teaches them to cook specifically with locally produced ingredients. As chefs, they serve high-quality healthy dishes made from local, environmentally friendly produce. This promotes local cuisine and increases demand for organic local products.

This benefits local farmers, who can sell their products more effectively. This leads to increased income and improved living conditions for them. The trained young people also get a chance for a better future: as chefs, they can find a stable source of income. For the residents of El Alto, high-nutrition healthy food suddenly becomes affordable and accessible. In the poor areas of the city, unhealthy fast food is cheap and readily available, leading to poor eating habits among most residents: primarily fried food and little to no vegetables, fruits, or dairy. Thus, promoting healthy, locally produced organic food has a positive impact on the entire chain of producers, processors (chefs), and consumers. It contributes to improving health, promoting environmentally friendly food production, and revaluing traditional cuisine and cultural heritage.

Jos, one of the two owners of De Roek, wrote a story about the project in the Latin America magazine. You can find the story at the following link.
